This is not a good choice to learn about José Martí. It has errors of fact, faulty translations, and plagiarism. I thought this volume had been removed after Monthy Review Press was alerted to the extensive plagiarism.Alas, now it is distributed by New York University Press. I wrote to the NYU press about the problems and also to a Monthly Review editor after discovering plagiarism in the translation editing in addition to the narrrative introduction. NYU responded that they are just the distributors. No one from Monthy Review Press responded. There are GOOD translations. Get Selected Writings (translations by Esther Allen).
